Ceramics

My most recent work has been in ceramics, experimenting with found objects as glaze. Rusty nails, copper wire, seashells, shards of sea glass (tumbled smooth or still sharp and dangerous); each takes take on a life of its own. Glass melts in unforeseen ways, metal can melt or explode, and seashells evaporate, leaving a soft brown glaze.

Other experimental work includes ceramic burnouts, where I used porcelain slip to saturate pieces of cloth. The cloth burns out during firing, but the porcelain hardens, bearing the intent and texture of the original fabric.
