This performance is based on a connection between ethnic identity and transnational experience, as well as webs of relationships that form a binational life. The performance is based on the concept of the rebozo, a distinctly Mexican shawl full of gendered history. For the shawl, I crocheted extension cords, then added small lights and ribbons. I typically use popular Mexican music from the 1930s as a foundation for for the performance. Here, I waltz to Agustín Lara’s ‘Farolito.’
