Rebar and Hostess Aprons, in the studio
Using eight-foot rebar, hostess aprons, cinderblocks and cement, I have created whimsical creatures that personify strength and hard work, with a fanciful touch. The rebar, bent to mimic a human silhouette, draped with an apron, stands free in concrete blocks. As an installation, multiple rebar sculptures pay homage to everyday paid and unpaid labor, the domestic economy, and gender.
