ENTONAR
In the beginning was the word (John 1:1), the logos, voicing original thought and bringing it into form. Entonar, represents a work based on a line from a woodcut my daughter brought me from a market in Mexico City: “antes del fin de este mundo, escribiremos otro.” (before the end of this world, we will write another). As current world events unite us in a re-creation of the world we once knew, we can look to a new world, one with greater justice, compassion and empathy. Contemplating the original wood cut, I imagine a new world through song, a chorus of voices, including the earth itself, all nature, animals and humans, recreating our home.
This work was the inspiration for the Poetic Stencil Workshop in a neighborhood park in Astoria, Queens, New York City.
